Frequently AskedQuestions
What is Adult Family Living?
The Adult Family Living (AFL) program offers assistance to elderly individuals aged 65 and older, allowing them to continue living in their own homes instead of seeking long-term care facilities such as assisted living or nursing homes. Through this program, family members or friends serving as primary caregivers can receive compensation for providing care to their loved ones within their own household.
Who Qualifies?
The individual receiving care must be 65 years of age or older and currently enrolled in Medicaid (Title 19). The caregiver must live in the same house as the patient who is receiving the care. Reach out to us to see if you qualify.
Who Qualifies as a Caregiver?
One of the unique aspects of Adult Family Living is that clients have the freedom to select their own caregiver. However, it's important to note that the caregiver must reside in the same household as the patient receiving the care and cannot be a legally liable relative, such as a spouse or Power of Attorney (POA).
What Are the Benefits of AFL?
AFL is a win-win program for both the patient and caregiver. The patient enjoys financial savings, customized care, social interaction, and improved independence—all in the comfort of their home. The caregiver benefits from our financial backing, guidance, assistance, and flexible work schedule as they cultivate their bedside skillset while caring for their loved one.
What is the Process?
Once we receive approval to begin services, one of our skilled professionals will reach out to you. They will schedule an initial assessment at the client's home. Once the assessment is completed, the appropriate level of care will be determined, and the program can begin. Caregivers undergo training and receive ongoing 24/7 support from our team. Weekly follow-ups and bi-monthly nursing visits ensure continuous monitoring and support.
How Does the Caregiver Get Paid?
AFL caregivers are remunerated according to the level of care established during the initial assessment. We recognize the effort involved in ongoing caregiving and offer competitive rates, providing caregivers with weekly tax-free payments.
